My Curvy Valentine

My Curvy Valentine

Finding the perfect dress for a date night (or girl’s night out!) isn’t easy for all of us! Just remember this: If you don’t FEEL confident or sexy in your clothes, then you’re wearing the wrong outfit! Nothing looks better on a plus-size woman than confidence – and it’s even better when you can achieve that look with a dress that flatters your shape and size! Shop around, try on everything and take an honest friend with you. No one wants to be told they look good if they know the person is only saying it to spare your feelings! Avoid a fitting-room tantrum by NOT going on a day when you feel less than great. And don’t forget the heels!

The Start of Something BIG!

Happy Valentine’s Day! And welcome to VV! Let’s get down to business!

There are so many words used to describe women like us and such a range of implied definition to them all. When it comes to terms that are meant to label those of us who carry some extra weight, how do you fare? I, personally, don’t care for too many of them, but I’ve met so many who don’t seem to mind them at all. So let’s get this out of the way.

We have been called:

voluptuous
fat
fluffy
plus-size
round
rotund
hefty
zaftig
rubenesque
plump, pleasantly plump
large
curvy
curvaceous
big
BBW
thick

…and a whole host of others I probably forgot! (most likely, on purpose).

How do these words make you feel? Do you identify with them or do you find them insulting? Where does one draw the line? It’s a personal choice, really, so let’s make a pact not to be too harsh here. Yes, I know, we just want to be seen as equals – but let’s face it – we ARE different. And since our difference is so visible, and is likely the first thing people notice about us, I guess I just have to face the fact that people (ourselves included) really don’t know the “politically correct” way to refer to each other. For the purposes of this blog, I will do my best to use these terms in as positive a manner as I can. Don’t read too much into it. I swear I will find us a suitable pet name once I get settled in! Your feedback is certainly welcome here – I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter!

And for the haters, you should probably be aware that there isn’t much you could say or call us that we haven’t heard already. I know you’re out there, and you just can’t wait to bless us with your insight.

That said, let’s get this party started!
